NOVA University of Lisbon has just launched a tender for the construction of a university residence on Campus de Caparica. This residence, with a capacity of 550 beds, will be the largest accommodation for students, teachers and researchers in the region of Almada.
NOVA’s initiative, which comes within the context of the NOVA’s Caparica Campus Strategic Development Plan, aims to improve the conditions to its community, attract more national and international talent, in addition to filling the lack of offer of this type of accommodation in Almada.
Currently, the residential offer dedicated to students near NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA is concentrated in the Fraústo da Silva Residence, with 220 rooms for a total of 8,500 students.
The creation of this residence is part of a process of transforming the Caparica Campus into an Urban Park, open to the city and with a diverse range of services available, both for the academic population and for the surrounding community.
“The existence of modern, functional and attractive conditions is crucial for the creation of a stimulating environment that is inviting to study and work. NOVA's decision to launch this initiative decisively reinforces the live/work/play environment advocated in the philosophy of the Innovation District of Almada. Simultaneously, it will make it possible to accommodate students from other parts of the country and increase internationalization with the arrival of foreign students and researchers seeking the NOVA School of Science and Technology”, explains Virgílio Cruz Machado, Dean of FCT NOVA.
In this way, NOVA continues the first phase of development of the Innovation District, a project presented in March 2021, which aims to develop a new global city in Almada, with the objective of combining a unique and sustainable lifestyle in a new geography of innovation and technological knowledge.
The tender for the new residence was launched on April 7, on acinGov (electronic platform for public procurement for all entities subject to the Public Contracts Code), with all interested parties enjoying 90 days from this date to submit their proposals.
