he Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will award merit grants to young candidates to higher education with high school qualifications and scarce financial resources. The application period runs from 1 to 24 October.
Students who have been placed in a Portuguese higher education institution, through the national entrance examination, with an ingress mark of 17 or higher, an annual family income per capita of up to €12,000 and who present proof of application for a social action grant from the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) will be eligible.
The annual value of the grant will be €2,000 for all selected students, which will be increased by a single additional amount of €2,000 if the student attends a semester at a university abroad as part of an international mobility programme. This additional support will enable students to have access to a relevant and enriching experience for their personal and educational pathway, which in most cases does not take place due to lack of financial means.
With the new Gulbenkian Merit Scholarships, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation seeks to continue to enhance the role of education and contribute to greater social equity, giving an opportunity to the brightest students and fostering the potential future impact of these scholarship holders in society.
