On November 15th, at the Grand Auditorium, was hosted the celebration of NOVA FCT's 46th anniversary, a significant event that acknowledged everyone's contributions to the success of the School in the fields of Science and Engineering.

Based on some of the events that marked the year in which NOVA FCT was born, the Novo Núcleo de Teatro presented a dynamic performance entitled "1977 - A Parable". The session continued with speeches that emphasised the pride of being part of this academic community.

"Students are the fundamental reason for universities. Here we do science, research and transfer knowledge to society. The most significant contribution we make to society is precisely to prepare students who will contribute to creating a better future," said José Júlio Alferes, Dean of NOVA FCT, during his speech, paving the way for the presentation of academic awards and merit scholarships to outstanding students.

João Sáàgua, NOVA's Rector, emphasised NOVA FCT's role in training professionals with skills geared towards the challenges facing contemporary society. "This young Faculty trains scientists and engineers for the professions of the future and develops the technologies that the future needs. Without a committed NOVA FCT, the NOVA project would never succeed," he says.

The necessary evolution of knowledge and academic method in a context of total openness of thought marked the intervention of Carla Quintão, Deputy Vice-Dean of the Pedagogical Council, pointing out that "the practice of good scientific research is proof of the greatest freedom of thought." "Freedom and training: two essential pillars of our faculty since we can only achieve one through the other," she added.

Representing all the students, the vice-president of the Association, Miguel Marques, praised NOVA FCT's teaching. "There are more than 8,000 of us, we are leaders, entrepreneurs, inventors and creators, and at NOVA FCT we learn to develop the best in us," he said.

The NOVA FCT community also had the opportunity to hear Marta Araújo, General Manager at Saint-Gobain Sekurit Service & Glassdrive Portugal, reflect on her own academic and professional career, emphasising the importance of investing in continuous training and developing strong interpersonal relationships.

The programme also included a tribute to 30 years of service, the opening of the exhibition "Utopias of the near future: Lisbon and Almada in the year 2100", curated by Maria Paula Diogo (DCSA Professor) and the vibrant performance of TunaMaria and anTUNiA
