Alexandra Tenera, professor and researcher at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI), has been appointed to coordinate the new ISO Working Group WG 13 – International Organization for Standardization. The professor will play a central role in developing the upcoming ISO 21514 international standard on project management and governance systems.
The appointment, approved by 85% of participating countries, marks an unprecedented milestone for Portugal, which is leading an international standardization group in this field for the first time. With a career dedicated to standardization and project management, Alexandra Tenera also heads ONS APOGEP, is a researcher at UNIDEMI, and former president of CT 175.
This international recognition strengthens Portugal’s presence in global standardization processes, with a direct impact on harmonizing practices among companies, public administration, and international organizations. The Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ) welcomed the appointment, highlighting the value of national technical participation on the international stage.
Alexandra Tenera also emphasized the importance of scientific knowledge in driving global economic development, expressing special thanks to DEMI and NOVA FCT for their support in embracing this challenging opportunity. Thanks to this environment of excellence, Portugal now has a leading role in setting standards for Project Management.
