NOVA School of Science and Technology | NOVA FCT is one of the partners in the HUMAI – High Users Management with AI project, a national initiative that brings together Artificial Intelligence and real-world data to tackle one of the greatest challenges facing the Portuguese National Health Service (SNS): the overuse of emergency services by frequent users.
Developed in collaboration with the Local Health Unit of Almada-Seixal (ULSAS) and coordinated by the Value for Health CoLAB, the HUMAI project aims to create an intelligent, predictive and patient-centred digital platform that supports more efficient and personalised healthcare management.
NOVA FCT, through its research in data science and artificial intelligence, contributes technical and scientific expertise to the development of robust predictive algorithms capable of supporting clinical decision-making and anticipating risk situations.
“This project shows that Artificial Intelligence can—and should—serve public organisations, with innovative, data-driven solutions that enhance the efficient use of SNS resources,” says Ana Londral, Executive and Scientific Director of the Value for Health CoLAB and Assistant Professor at NOVA FCT.
HUMAI builds upon the work of the Frequent Users Resolution Group (GRHU), launched in 2016, and now aims to scale the solution nationwide, contributing to a more efficient, sustainable, and people-focused National Health Service.
The project is funded under the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme, through investment RE-C05-i08 – “Ciência Mais Digital” of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), as part of the Call for Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Cybersecurity of relevance to Public Administration, promoted by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (reference 2024.07543.IACDC/2024).
