Mónica Almeida, researcehr at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, will represent the Mediterranean region at the "Fjällräven Polar" expedition, an expedition of "common people" to the Arctic Circle with 300 km, organized for 20 years by this brand of outdoor equipment, to be held next month April.

The online contest ran from 16 November to 14 December and chose the candidate from each of the ten participating regions. Mónica Almeida was selected by the jury of the competition taking into consideration the quality of the candidacy and the cohesion of the group.

For Mónica Almeida, the experience will still be an "excellent opportunity to test survival skills in an environment as inhospitable as the Arctic tundra." In 2012, Pedro Alves was the first Portuguese to participate in this adventure and it was he who spoke of this contest to Monica. Like Mónica Almeida, Pedro Alves lost to Greece at the online voting and was chosen by the jury of the event.
