NOVA School of Science and Technology is a good example of the focus on research "Europe has been doing"

Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister, and António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal, both said research has a key role in the future of Europe during the meeting they had with NOVA School of Science and Technology PhD students and researchers on the morning of April 3. The Portuguese head of government congratulated the country for gaining a place of leadership in front of innovation and research. António Costa also stated that NOVA School of Science and Technology is a good example of the innovation and commitment of research “that Europe has been doing” and of what “Portugal has been able to do thanks to Europe”, also referring to research support programs such as the H2020.

The itinerary of this visit began at the NOVALINCS / OutSystems Collaborative Research Laboratory, which enables researchers and students to develop projects related to OutSystems programming technologies and systems and various areas of research at NOVA LINCS. In collaboration with experts from the OutSystems R&D team, NOVA LINCS researchers and students develop cutting-edge innovation in increasingly intelligent and automated programming environments that enable non-specialists to build functional and easy-to-use applications.

The delegation also had the opportunity to get to know the Smart4Health project, coordinated by UNINOVA, which is the largest project ever coordinated by Portugal, as part of the Horizon 2020 European Research and Innovation Program. The project will enhance personalized digital solutions for health through universal exchange of citizen-centered Electronic Health Records, enabling a personalized approach to health and promoting the development of digital solutions and services geared to the citizen's own social, medical and well-being purposes. Smart4health is yet another example of the already long history of research and development cooperation between Portugal and the Netherlands, for which NOVA School of Science and Technology has been an example, the importance of this link was widely welcomed by both Prime Ministers.
