Lourdes Afonso, Professor and Researcher at NOVA FCT's Department of Mathematics, was recently re-elected President of the Board of the Institute of Portuguese Actuaries (IAP).
The IAP is a non-profit professional association of a technical and scientific nature, whose aim is to encourage and provide research, development and improvement of science and technology in the analysis and decision-making of institutions, in relation to their management in the economic, financial and asset security fields, and in all aspects and applications relevant to business risks.
In addition to this reappointment, Lourdes Afonso has also been a member of the board of the Actuarial Association of Europe since November 2023 and is currently the coordinator of the Master's in Actuarial Mathematics at NOVA FCT.
The two institutions are benchmarks in the actuarial world, one of the professional branches possible with a mathmatics degrees and which reinforces NOVA FCT's position as a leading institution in these programmes.
