FCT Awards 2025: Honoring Outstanding Teaching and Student Initiatives

On May 28, the NOVA FCT Students’ Union announced the winners of the FCT Awards 2025, an initiative aimed at recognizing and valuing the professors and student groups who stood out the most throughout the 2024/2025 academic year for their dedication, student engagement, and active contribution to academic life at the Faculty.

This year, the Professor of the Year title was awarded, for the second consecutive time, to Cláudio Fernandes, from the Department of Mathematics, in recognition of his outstanding involvement with students and the positive impact on their academic journey.

In the student association category, three groups were recognized for their dynamism and commitment to the NOVA FCT community:

  • PATA – Animal Protection Group “Todas a Ajudar”, recognized for the second year in a row

  • Informatics Student Group

  • FCT Formula Student Team

In addition to the Professor of the Year award, the following faculty members were also honored for their remarkable teaching, dedication, and close engagement with students:

  • Pedro Coelho (Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering)

  • Susete Fernandes (Department of Materials Science)

  • Susana França de Sá (Department of Conservation and Restoration)

  • David Scarso (Department of Applied Social Sciences)

  • Joaquim Simão (Department of Earth Sciences)

  • Jaime Mota (Department of Life Sciences)

  • Carla Machão (Department of Civil Engineering)

  • João Oliveira (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering)

  • Telmo Santos (Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering)

  • Cláudia Quaresma (Department of Physics)

  • Kevin Gallagher (Department of Informatics)

  • Gracinda Guerreiro (Department of Mathematics)

  • Maria Pereira (Department of Chemistry)

These distinctions reflect the recognition of the NOVA FCT student community for the daily contribution of both faculty and student groups to a richer, more inclusive, and participatory academic experience.
