Master in Glass and Ceramic Art and Science

Started in the academic year 2009/2010, in association with the Faculty of Fine Arts from Lisbon University.

Objetivos

Both ceramic and glass share several essential material constituents. Affinities between manufacturing processes and mechanical properties of final products reveal advantages of working in common these territories. This evident opportunity led to the creation of VICARTE - Glass and Ceramic for the Arts, a transdisciplinary research unit, exploring the intersection between Art and Science and allowing the promotion and sharing of knowledge and methodologies between these two fields.

The Master's Degree in Glass and Ceramic Art and Science (MACVC), is an evolution and expansion of the successes of the previous Master's Degree in Glass Art and Science (MACV).

The Master in Glass and Ceramic Art and Science is an innovative program focused on effective trans-disciplinarity related to art and science. This course aims to introduce glass and ceramics as materials to be explored for use in art and design. The in-depth exploration follows parallel and crossing reflection and practice in glass and ceramics, creating a context for the development and emergence of creative results and new values for these
materials. Following this route, students expand their scope of authorship, improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and benefit from training and streamlining communication and dissemination of results, as an integral part of the projects being worked on.

Plano curricular

Saídas profissionais

It is the objective of this master to give artists and designers the fundamental tools to develop an artistic activity or to be integrated into the design industry of the ceramic and glass, contributing to the increase of creativity in these areas.

This Master's Degree is also open to graduates in exact sciences, who will be able to bridge the gap between art and science and contribute to innovation in various technological processes involving these materials.
