Approximately 70% of all technological innovations are directly or indirectly linked to materials, spanning applications in electronics, biotechnology, and energy. Cars, airplanes, computers, televisions, mobile phones, sports equipment, biomedical devices (such as artificial valves and prostheses), among others, rely on the development of materials and manufacturing processes to achieve the required properties and functionalities.
