18-11-2021

For the second consecutive year, the NOVA School of Science and Technology is once again awarded the Green Flag, an endowment that recognizes the School's efforts and commitment to becoming more sustainable in all daily activities.

The Eco-School distinction, promoted by Blue Flag Association of Europe, corresponds to the recognition of the work developed by the Sustainability team at FCT Sustentável, in the pursuit of a +Sustainable Campus, constantly seeking the involvement of the entire community in a collaborative way.
The School explored initiatives in various areas of activity, such as Waste, Healthy and Sustainable Food, Outdoor Spaces, Involvement and Awareness, highlighting:

  • Build up the network of recycling bins outside and inside buildings, as a way of promoting recycling on the Campus;
  • Taking part in the Depositrão Generation Contest, placing the School in 4th place nationally in the collection of electrical and electronic waste;
  • Participation in HEI (higher education institutions) Conferences and Meetings, in order to publicize the work developed by the School;
  • Joining in environmental challenges, to sensitize the academic community in an attractive and effective way, as an example the "O Mar Começa Aqui!" ( "The sea starts here" - painting of gutters on campus by students from NAS and NuCoRes);
  • The dynamization of actions to raise awareness and involve students, promoted by the NAS, which include walk tours in protected areas, beach cleaning campaigns, screening documentaries, holding meetings and workshops on vegetarian eating, among others.

Eco-Schools is an Education Program for Sustainable Development promoted in Portugal by the Blue Flag Association of Europe, the Portuguese section of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
