The NOVA School of Science and Technology is one of the founding partners of the Alliance for Equality in ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), formalized on December 14 in a session held at the Electricity Museum, chaired by the Minister of the Presidency.

The Alliance will be coordinated by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), in conjunction with the Portuguese Association for Diversity and Inclusion - APPDI and other partner entities. The core objective is to promote the digital inclusion of women and their participation in engineering and technology, consolidating and structuring systematic forms of cooperation and dissemination of the work carried out by partner entities.

"The added value of this alliance will be the fact that it will become the largest cluster to promote equality in ICT and digital in Portugal, around the Engenheiras Por Um Dia program", explained Rosa Monteiro, Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality.

The participation of the NOVA School of Science and Technology in this program and in this new alliance reinforces the School's efforts to raise awareness of ICT, among the youngest, in particular youthful students in primary and secondary education.

The new alliance at present has 135 partner entities involved, 75 different entities, especially companies in the technology sector, 10 municipalities, 45 schools, primary and secondary, and 15 higher education institutions.

The session included speeches by the Minister of State and the Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva, the President of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, and Sandra Ribeiro, the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality. The programme also included two round tables under the theme “Digital Equality”. Maria Helena Fino, professor and researcher at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NOVA participated in the first table on “Training and Enabling”. The second round table debated the issues related to hiring and retaining talent.
