Education

Master in Aerospace Engineering

The Master in Aerospace Engineering at FCT NOVA encourages critical thinking about the role of Aerospace Engineering in a more sustainable and intelligent future, while expanding the possibilities of space exploration. It was created with the aim of filling a gap in the future market, focusing, essentially but not only, on the challenges involving small and medium-sized aerospace devices (capable of operating up to 700 km in altitude). This is a differentiating factor that translates into an interdisciplinary Master's degree involving excellence research and innovation activities by institutions and companies in the FCT NOVA ecosystem.

This Master provides a solid advanced education, training highly qualified masters for national and international positions in the aerospace industry, government agencies and academia. Through a comprehensive and interdisciplinary program that involves excellence in research and innovation activities of the institutions and companies that orbit FCT NOVA, this Master covers challenges involving space vehicles and aircraft with regard to control, guidance and navigation; electronics and telecommunications; structures, aerodynamics and propulsion.

The Master is developed in two scientific areas of specialization: Avionic Systems and Aerospace Mechanics; training engineers with advanced qualifications to enter the labor market in the aeronautical and special sector (national and international) or to advance to advanced research programs (3rd cycle – PhD).

Objectives

The Master's Course in Aerospace Engineering aims to encourage critical thinking about the role of aerospace engineering in a more sustainable and intelligent future, but also in expanding the possibilities of space exploration.

At the end of the study cycle, students will have acquired knowledge and skills in areas that include:

  • Design and integration of aircraft and avionics
  • Flight dynamics, operations and communications
  • Fluid dynamics and aerodynamics
  • Design of structures, materials and propulsion systems Production and sustainability
  • Space technology and applications

The Master in Aerospace Engineering presents 2 scientific areas of specialization: Avionic Systems and Mechanics of Aerospace.

Graduate students in Aerospace Engineering possess a unique combination of fundamental skills in advanced science and technology. This combination allows them to easily adapt to the constant evolution of aerospace processes and the demands of an ever-changing job market. As a result, they are always ready to face the challenges of technological innovation, thus ensuring a successful career.

Curriculum

Career opportunities

The growing economic and social interest in integrating engineers qualified for the aerospace field, the fact that the aerospace sector is an economic sector with exponential growth in the coming years, and the multidisciplinary training of the FCT NOVA Master in Aerospace Engineering enhance an easy integration in the work market, namely in companies covering the following areas:

  • Design, manufacture and integration of aircraft;
  • Aircraft operating systems;
  • Maintenance and operation;
  • Investigation and development.
