Gastronomic Sciences is an interdisciplinary field that combines knowledge from various areas, including gastronomy, food science, nutrition, food history, food culture, culinary technology, among others.
This area studies culinary techniques, food preferences and habits, as well as the socio-economic factors that influence human nutrition, and investigates new ingredients and preparation techniques, innovations in the food industry and issues of sustainability, ethics and food safety.
The master’s degree in Gastronomic Sciences is your opportunity to integrate a fundamental area for understanding the relationship between food, health, culture and the environment, and for developing more conscious and sustainable food policies and culinary practices.
These scholarships, worth 450 euros, are available to all students from the School or other Higher Education Institutions who are applying for the first time to the first year of a Master’s programme at NOVA FCT and have a final undergraduate grade of 15 or higher.

The master’s degree in Gastronomic Sciences is based on the excellent research carried out at NOVA FCT's Chemistry Department and LAQV Research Center (Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry) complemented in certain areas by the research carried out at ISA ULisboa.
The teaching staff associated with this master’s program carries out research in cutting-edge areas of Chemistry, Food Sciences and Gastronomy Industry.
Food industry: quality control, creativity and innovation in food production; culinary arts; entrepreneurship in tourism, hospitality and food businesses; gastronomy communication; education and research in areas related to gastronomic sciences.

Tuition fee - Portuguese students: 1750€ / year
Tuition fee - Foreign students: 3000€ / year
Master's Acceptance Fee (in Portuguese only):
Accepted candidates will have to pay (within a maximum of 7 consecutive days from the date of placement) a non-refundable fee of 100 euros, to be deducted after enrolment from the total tuition fee.
Failure to pay within this period will result in the automatic exclusion of the candidate. No exceptions or late payments will be considered. Any payment made after the deadline will not be refunded and the candidate will remain excluded.
